Asbestos AwarenessAsbestos Awareness
Widely used for many years, asbestos continues to be a threat in homes and in the workplace. This course enables students to understand what asbestos is and why it is harmful. It teaches them how to recognize the presence of asbestos and demonstrates how they can protect themselves. The course also ensures that students are fully aware of strict safety regulations dictating how asbestos should be monitored, who can clean up asbestos and the required procedures for training and use of personal protective equipment.
Transportation of Hazardous Materials
The Code of Federal Regulations enabling students to describe the civil and criminal penalties for failure to comply. Through hands-on exercises in key areas, including Hazardous Materials Table, Shipping Papers, Marking, Labeling, Placarding and Emergency Response, Title 49, requires training for people who transport hazardous materials. This course will thoroughly familiarize students with 49 CFR. It will discuss the legal requirements of 49 CFR, emphasizing the importance of compliance an, students will be able to describe listed materials that are required to be shipped as hazmat packages.Confined Space Entry Safety
Many potential hazards can exist in confined spaces. With a heavy emphasis on safety, this class instructs students in how to identify a confined space and fosters understanding of entry procedures, regulations and personal protective equipment. This class stresses the responsibilities of the Entrant, the Attendant and the Supervisor. Students are apprised of safety measures for preentry, entry and post-entry, covering both engineering and administrative controls. Students gain hands-on familiarity with Confined Space Entry Permits, with special emphasis on why the information is included and how to interpret and apply the requirements.
Respirator Usage
When properly selected and fitted, respirators can provide important protection for users. This class incorporates both discussion and hands-on exercises. Students will be able to identify when it is necessary to wear a respirator and learn how to wear one properly. Students discover the potential routes of entry of harmful agents and also learn to recognize respirator hazards, both in the workplace and at home. They also learn the proper way to obtain the data needed to ensure suitable protection and compliance with legal requirements. After discussion of the various types of respirators available, students will be able to select the appropriate model and coverage for the potential hazard they face. To ensure proper fit and maintenance, students will perform a hands-on mask fit test.Fall Protection
Careless or improper use of personal fall arrest systems can result in serious injury or death. To mitigate this risk, OSHA Standard 1910 mandates that employees be thoroughly trained in the safe use of these systems before the equipment is utilized. This course discusses all prerequisites of safe use, including proper anchoring and tie-off techniques; estimation of free fall distance; methods of use; and inspection and storage of the system.
Hazardous Waste Disposal
Waste types and management processes can vary materially by industry and employee function. With a focus on the safe disposal of hazardous substances, this course can be customized for each audience, depending on the job responsibilities of the students. This course fulfills the Dangerous Waste Regulation requirements of the Washington State Department of Ecology.
Industrial Vehicle Safety
Industrial vehicles can present significant hazards. Thorough training can help to mitigate these dangers by ensuring that personnel are thoroughly grounded in safety processes and procedures. This series of courses teaches sound principles of safety, inspection, maintenance, application and operation. The courses can be customized for any audience to focus on the specific equipment that students use in their work. Training for vehicle operators uses the same model of equipment as the operator utilizes in actual work site operation. Under the instructor’s supervision, the student operates the equipment to demonstrate his or her proficiency and knowledge of safe operating procedures.
